When Your Furnace Stops Working in Frederick

You woke up to a cold house, or the heat just cut out and it is not coming back on. Maybe the furnace is running but the air coming out is barely warm. Maybe it started making a noise last week and now it is not running at all. Maybe it cycles on, runs for a minute, then shuts off again — over and over — while the temperature in the house keeps dropping.

It is not a small thing. If there are kids trying to sleep, or an elderly parent in the house, cold is not just uncomfortable — it is a problem that needs to be solved today. And the last thing you need right now is to call a number and get voicemail, or be told the first available appointment is Thursday.

You are not looking for a lesson in how furnaces work. You are looking for someone who will pick up the phone, tell you they can be there today, and actually fix it. That is what this call is about.

Rick ,thank you for all your help ,your were great ,job well done ! Nice to be back in a warm home ! Two other companies came out ,wanted to sell me the moon ,knew something was not right ! Great service, very timely and 100% honest. My heat went out with temperatures in the 20s. This company came through the next day and went above and beyond. Didn’t try to over sell anything additional or upcharge. I highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed.

Certifications & Licensing

Why dealer status and licenses matter

Manufacturer dealer status and state licenses aren't decorations — they affect which warranty terms you get on new equipment, who's allowed to pull your permits, and whose installation work the manufacturer will stand behind.

Maryland HVAC Master License #75803  ·  Master Plumber / Gas Fitter #86156

Manufacturer dealer certifications require demonstrated installation quality, verified customer satisfaction ratings, and completed factory training. Premier and Authorized status also unlocks enhanced warranty options on new equipment — terms that aren't available through uncertified installers. The LG Pro Platinum designation is LG's highest contractor tier, covering cold-climate and inverter-driven systems specifically.

How BPM Handles Furnace Repair in Frederick

When you call BPM Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, a live person answers. Not a recording, not a callback queue — someone who can take your information, understand what is happening, and get a technician on the schedule. Same-day availability is real during business hours, and the team will work to fit urgent situations in.

The technician arrives, confirms what you have been experiencing, and walks through the system — explaining what they are checking and why as they go. When the diagnosis is done, you hear what failed, what it will take to fix it, and what it will cost. Nothing gets replaced until you say so.

BPM’s approach to repair is straightforward: if the system can be fixed and the repair makes sense given the age and condition of the equipment, that is what gets recommended. When a less expensive fix genuinely solves the problem, that is what you hear — not a push toward a new system. When replacement is honestly the right call, the technician explains why clearly, without pressure.

Before leaving, the technician confirms the system is running correctly, answers any questions you have, and leaves the work area clean. If the repair uncovers something else worth knowing about — a part showing wear, something to watch — you hear about it so you can decide, not so BPM can add to the bill.

By the time the visit is over, the heat is back on and you know exactly what happened and why. That is what ends the search.

We needed our heating system looked at because it wasn’t heating up the house. Thankfully I called BPM and a live person answered the phone right away. Thankfully I did not have to listen to endless recordings. Instead, I spoke with Samantha which was very polite and answered all my questions. She was able to fit us in for the very next day. The service technicians were right on time. Shawn and an assistant (ooops can’t remember their name) serviced our heater and answered all my questions and explained in detail each issue. In addition, he offered the maintenance plan that we signed up for and saved 20% off our repairs. Our heater is working now!! Thank you for great service!!!

Hello Everyone!!

We have had an issue with Blower motor in our HVAC. We contacted 9 HVAC companies and they are all advised to replace the entire system but Mr.Rich from BPM is very kind to ask about the actual problem and provided 3 different options one of them is to replace the actual issue instead of replacing the full system.

Also, Mr.Rich informed us that, the current system is in good condition and will work for another couple of years based on his expertise in this field.

The technician Mr.Mychall is very professional and he fixed the actual problem in less than an hour.

This company helped to save thousands of dollars in HVAC expenses for us.

I would happily and strongly recommend BPM HVAC service to everyone who is need of the HVAC and their Plumbing repairs as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone actually come out today, or am I looking at waiting days?

Same-day service is available during business hours — call (240) 200-0887 and a live person will answer, assess the situation, and get a technician scheduled. BPM will rearrange the schedule to accommodate urgent calls when the heat is out. If the first available slot is not same-day for some reason, you will be told that honestly on the call — not after you have been waiting.

How much does furnace repair typically cost, and will I know the price before anything is fixed?

Furnace repair costs in Frederick generally range from around $150–$200 for a straightforward fix like a failed igniter or a tripped safety switch, up to $600–$900 or more for larger components like a draft inducer motor or a heat exchanger issue. The technician provides the price before any work begins — nothing gets replaced without your approval. What moves the number is the part that failed, the age of the system, and parts availability for your specific model.

My furnace is older — is it worth repairing, or should I just replace it?

The honest answer depends on the repair cost relative to the system’s remaining useful life. A furnace that is 15–18 years old with a $200 fix is usually worth repairing. The same furnace with an $800 heat exchanger repair is a closer call — and a cracked heat exchanger on an older system is often the point where replacement makes more financial sense. BPM evaluates the system’s actual condition and gives you a straight assessment, including what the repair buys you in realistic remaining life. You get the information to make the decision — not a push in either direction.

Is it safe to keep running the furnace if it's making a strange noise or cycling on and off?

It depends on the symptom. A furnace that is short-cycling — running briefly and shutting off repeatedly — is usually responding to a safety control and should not be forced to run continuously. A loud bang or boom when the burner ignites can indicate delayed ignition, which puts stress on the heat exchanger over time and warrants prompt attention. A cracked heat exchanger is a carbon monoxide risk and should be treated as urgent. If you are uncertain, the safest move is to shut the furnace off and call — running a system that is signaling a safety issue can turn a repair into a more serious problem.

Do you work on all furnace brands, or only certain ones?

BPM services all major brands found in Frederick homes — Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Amana, Rheem, Bryant, York, Armstrong Air, and others. BPM is a Lennox Premier Dealer and a Trane Authorized Dealer, which means enhanced access to parts and warranty support for those brands — but the diagnostic capability covers whatever is in your home.

What should I check myself before the technician arrives?

A few things are worth ruling out before the visit: confirm the thermostat is set to Heat and the temperature is set above the current room temperature; check that the furnace power switch (usually on the wall near the unit, looks like a light switch) is on; check the circuit breaker for the furnace; and replace the air filter if it has not been changed recently — a severely clogged filter can trigger a safety shutoff. If the furnace has a pilot light, check whether it is lit. These are not always the cause, but they are quick to check and occasionally save the visit entirely.

If the repair is expensive, are there payment options?

Yes — BPM offers financing through Nymeo Federal Credit Union, and accepts credit card, cash, check, and combinations of payment methods. If you are looking at a larger repair or a furnace replacement, financing options can be walked through on the call or during the visit. BPM also accepts ValPak coupons.
