When Your Heat Goes Out in Frederick, Every Hour Counts

You did not plan for this. The house was fine when you went to bed, and now it’s noticeably colder — or the furnace is running but nothing warm is coming out of the vents. You’ve already checked the thermostat. You’ve already flipped the breaker. You Googled the symptom and got a list of possibilities that could mean anything from a dirty filter to a failed heat exchanger. None of it tells you whether someone can actually be at your house today.

That urgency is real. Frederick winters are not mild — when temperatures drop into the twenties, a house that is losing heat is not a problem you can manage with extra blankets, especially if there are kids, an elderly parent, or a pet who cannot regulate their own temperature. The anxiety underneath the search is not just discomfort. It’s the fear that this is the big one — that you’re about to be told you need a whole new system, or that no one can come until Thursday.

Some of what you might be noticing:

  • The thermostat is calling for heat but the air coming out of the vents is cool or lukewarm
  • The system runs constantly but the house temperature keeps dropping
  • You heard a noise — a bang, a rattle, a grinding — and then nothing
  • One part of the house is warm and another is not
  • The system simply stopped turning on at all
  • Your heating bill jumped without any obvious reason

Any of these can have a straightforward explanation. Some are quick repairs. Some are signs of a bigger issue. The only way to know is to have someone who actually knows heating systems in Frederick come look at it — not a call center, not a lead form, a technician who can be at your door today.

Great service, very timely and 100% honest. My heat went out with temperatures in the 20s. This company came through the next day and went above and beyond. Didn’t try to over sell anything additional or upcharge. I highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed.

Certifications & Licensing

Why dealer status and licenses matter

Manufacturer dealer status and state licenses aren't decorations — they affect which warranty terms you get on new equipment, who's allowed to pull your permits, and whose installation work the manufacturer will stand behind.

Maryland HVAC Master License #75803  ·  Master Plumber / Gas Fitter #86156

Manufacturer dealer certifications require demonstrated installation quality, verified customer satisfaction ratings, and completed factory training. Premier and Authorized status also unlocks enhanced warranty options on new equipment — terms that aren't available through uncertified installers. The LG Pro Platinum designation is LG's highest contractor tier, covering cold-climate and inverter-driven systems specifically.

How BPM Handles Heating Repair in Frederick

When you call BPM, a live person answers — no phone tree, no recording, no being put on hold to navigate a menu. You describe what’s happening, and the office assesses urgency and gets a technician on the schedule. Same-day availability is real, not a marketing claim.

The technician arrives and starts by confirming what you’ve observed. Before anything is opened up or tested, you hear what they’re going to check and why. As the diagnosis unfolds, they explain what they’re finding — not in technical shorthand, but in plain terms that let you understand what is actually wrong and what it means for your system. If there’s something to show you, they show you.

What you get at the end of a diagnosis is a clear picture: what failed, whether it’s an isolated problem or a sign of broader wear, and what the honest options are. BPM tells you what the system actually needs — not the most expensive path forward. When a repair is the right call, that’s what gets recommended. When a system is genuinely near the end of its life, that gets said plainly too, with options at different price points so the decision in front of you is yours to make with real information.

No work starts until you approve it. The price is on the table before anything is replaced.

If the repair turns out to require a part that needs to be ordered, or if the situation is more involved than a single visit, BPM can provide a loaner space heater so the house is not left without heat while the job gets finished. The goal is that you are warm — not just that the visit is complete.

BPM works on the full range of heating equipment in Frederick homes: gas furnaces, heat pumps, electric furnaces, boilers, and mini-split systems. If your system is a heat pump rather than a furnace, that is not a problem — it is a system BPM services routinely, including cold-climate inverter-driven units. If the diagnosis points toward replacement rather than repair, heating installation options in Frederick are available at multiple price points. Whatever is in your mechanical room, the technician has seen it before.

We needed our heating system looked at because it wasn’t heating up the house. Thankfully I called BPM and a live person answered the phone right away. Thankfully I did not have to listen to endless recordings. Instead, I spoke with Samantha which was very polite and answered all my questions. She was able to fit us in for the very next day. The service technicians were right on time. Shawn and an assistant (ooops can’t remember their name) serviced our heater and answered all my questions and explained in detail each issue. In addition, he offered the maintenance plan that we signed up for and saved 20% off our repairs. Our heater is working now!! Thank you for great service!!!

Hello Everyone!!

We have had an issue with Blower motor in our HVAC. We contacted 9 HVAC companies and they are all advised to replace the entire system but Mr.Rich from BPM is very kind to ask about the actual problem and provided 3 different options one of them is to replace the actual issue instead of replacing the full system.

Also, Mr.Rich informed us that, the current system is in good condition and will work for another couple of years based on his expertise in this field.

The technician Mr.Mychall is very professional and he fixed the actual problem in less than an hour.

This company helped to save thousands of dollars in HVAC expenses for us.

I would happily and strongly recommend BPM HVAC service to everyone who is need of the HVAC and their Plumbing repairs as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone actually come out today?

Same-day service is available during BPM’s business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. When you call, a live person answers and assesses the situation — urgent heating calls are prioritized. BPM does not offer 24/7 emergency dispatch, so if your heat goes out overnight, call first thing in the morning and same-day scheduling is the realistic expectation.

How much does a heating repair call cost, roughly?

Heating repair costs in Frederick typically range from under $200 for a straightforward fix — a failed igniter, a tripped safety switch, a clogged condensate line — to several hundred dollars for parts like a motor, control board, or heat exchanger. BPM provides the price before any work starts, so you are not committing to an unknown number. If you are a Comfort Club maintenance plan member, you receive 20% off repair costs. Financing through Nymeo Federal Credit Union is available if the repair bill is larger than expected.

My heat is running but the house isn't getting warm — is that serious?

It depends on the cause, and it can go either way. A system that runs continuously without heating the house could be something as simple as a dirty air filter starving airflow, a thermostat miscalibration, or a refrigerant issue on a heat pump. It can also indicate a failing heat exchanger, a cracked component, or a system that is undersized for the load it’s carrying. A technician needs to see it to know — but this symptom alone does not mean you need a new system.

How do I know I'm not being told I need more than I actually need?

BPM’s consistent practice is to recommend the repair when a repair is viable — including on older systems that other companies push to replace. The technician explains what failed, shows evidence where possible, and lays out the actual options. No work starts without your approval. If the honest answer is that a repair makes sense, that’s what you’ll hear. If the system is genuinely at the end of its life, that gets said plainly with the reasoning behind it — not as a sales pitch for a new system.

Is it worth repairing a system this old, or will it just break again?

Age alone is not the deciding factor. A 15-year-old furnace with one failed part and otherwise sound components can be worth repairing. A 10-year-old system with recurring failures and significant wear may not be. BPM evaluates the actual condition — repair cost relative to system value, reliability outlook, and parts availability — before making a recommendation. You get a straight answer, not a default push toward replacement.

What should I do right now to keep the house from getting dangerously cold while I wait?

Close off rooms you are not using to concentrate whatever heat remains. Use electric space heaters in the rooms where people are spending time, keeping them away from flammable materials and never leaving them unattended. If you have a gas oven, do not use it for heat — it is not safe. If the temperature inside the home drops below 55°F and there are vulnerable people in the house, consider whether a neighbor, family member, or warming center is the right call while you wait for the repair. Call BPM as early in the morning as possible to get on the same-day schedule.

Does it matter that I have a heat pump instead of a furnace?

No — BPM services heat pump repairs routinely, including cold-climate inverter-driven units. Heat pumps do behave differently from gas furnaces, particularly in very cold weather, and diagnosing them requires different knowledge than furnace work. That is not a problem here. If your system is a heat pump and it is not keeping up, the technician will assess it the same way — what is actually failing, what the fix is, and whether the system is suited to the load it is carrying.
